Baile Chláir

Baile Chláir ( Irish and official name; English : Claregalway ) is a place and rural parish in County Galway in the west of the Republic of Ireland .

Claregalway was founded as a medieval foundation on the River Clare and is located in a Gaeltacht region, so that Baile Chláir is the official name of the place. The place is 10 km northeast of Galway at the confluence of the national road N18 from Limerick City into the N17 from Galway via Tuam, 23 km away , heading north. This situation confronts the place with chronic traffic jams .

The population of Claregalway was determined by the 2016 Census to be 1248.

In the place are the remains of the Claregalway Monastery , which was operated by Franciscans from the middle of the 13th century until around 1570 .
