Bala is part of Muskoka Lakes and is located in the Muskoka District Municipality in Ontario , Canada .
Formerly independent, the place came in 1971 through the amalgamation of several smaller communities to the community of Muskoka Lakes. Today tourism is the main source of income. Guided tours provide information about the cultivation and harvest of the numerous huge cranberry fields and cultures.
In Ontario, the place is known as Ontario's cranberry capital. Every fall, the Bala Cranberry Festival is celebrated the weekend after Thanksgiving in Canada .
