Baldissera Donato
Baldissera Donato (Baldassare Donati) (* around 1530 near Venice , † 1603 in Venice) was an Italian singer, conductor and composer.
Since 1550 he was active as a singer (first at San Marco in Venice), in the meantime he also worked in the training of singers. In 1580 he took over the position of Kapellmeister at the Cathedral of Padua and in 1590 returned to San Marco, where he held the position of first Kapellmeister until his death.
During his lifetime he gained great popularity through his Villanelles , art songs in a popular tone, which he composed alongside his numerous other works (mostly polyphonic vocal music).
