Baldwin whistles

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Balduin Pfiff is a fictional novel and radio play character by the German author Wolfgang Ecke (1927–1983). The adventures of the fat little master detective with his dog brush , his Kunigunde revolver (which is actually just a cigar lighter) and his great preference for liters of cold buttermilk were written between 1975 and 1983. Later first publications, mainly in book form by the publishers Loewe and Otto Maier Ravensburg (up to 1987), come from the author's estate.

Summary

After Wolfgang Ecke had written several hundred radio plays for children and young people by the early 1970s and had written and produced other commercial children's licenses such as Robbi, Tobbi and the Fliewatüüt , Piggy Dick and his friends and Catweazle as radio play series with the same success , In 1975 he brought his own figure onto the market, primarily intended for younger readers: the funny master detective Balduin Pfiff. Corner stayed true to his specialty and his profession, child and youth-friendly crime stories.

As the human title hero of the 1970s, Balduin Pfiff was an extraordinary and ultimately successful project. The multitude of his characteristics and characteristics such as small, fat, lazy, impatient, constantly eating, the rest of the time lying on the couch and sleeping, slightly quick-tempered and convinced of himself without a doubt, but also very smart, helpful and a real one Masters of his subject, Balduin Pfiff made a lovable and above all funny character in the right mix.

Wolfgang Ecke's spelling, which was kept simple, played a major role in the success. The focus is not on the criminal case and its solution, but on the characters involved, their peculiarities and quirks, the dialogues and the funny to slapstick-like situations that result from the interaction. This is particularly evident in the radio play versions of the stories, in which children reproduce the individual, funny passages far more often than the criminal case itself. Wolfgang Eckes' talent for being empathetic and funny was particularly evident in his Balduin whistling stories fully unfold, and you can tell - not only from the multitude of stories he has written in just eight years - that he enjoyed writing about Balduin Pfiff.

The second essential factor, why Balduin Pfiff quickly became known and popular, were the funny drawings by the painter and graphic artist Erich Hölle (1925–1993), who gave Balduin Pfiff his unmistakable appearance from 1976 and thus brought it to life visually. Each of the nine Balduin-Pfiff books possessed an abundance of depictions of the little master detective, which complemented Ecke's stories like a picture book. In addition to the book covers of the original editions by Loewes-Verlag and the paperback editions by Ravensburger, Erich Hölle also illustrated the first editions of the radio play record covers for the labels Bunny / WEA and Schwanni / Schwann-Bagel, thereby establishing the image of Balduin Pfiff, which we know today.

The third factor in the success was the radio play versions of the stories. In the role of Balduin Pfiff, the experienced German actor and cabaret artist Hans Jürgen Diedrich (1923–2012) was engaged , whose voice and manner of speaking matched the figure's chunky, rebellious overall image perfectly, as well as its funny adventures. Diedrich gave Balduin whistle on all commercial publications (a total of eight long-playing records or music cassettes).

Baldwin whistle radio plays

With the exception of the two publications The Lady with the Black Lacquered Fingernails and The General of the Dwarfs , all long-playing record productions are designed as radio plays. The individual stories of The Lady with the Black-Painted Fingernails and The General of the Dwarfs, however, are readings by Hans Jürgen Diedrich. The short stories were partly shortened again or reinterpreted by Diedrich in places.
