description

The farmhouse is located in a sparsely populated region of Morays around seven kilometers northwest of the village of Tomintoul not far from the right bank of the Avon . Directly to the north is the Tomintoul whiskey distillery . With the help of architectural details, Ballantruan's construction period can be narrowed down to the middle of the 18th century.

The south-east exposed main facade of the two-story farmhouse is three axes wide. Its masonry is made of quarry stone plastered with Harl . In the middle is the wooden, two-winged entrance portal. While twelve-part lattice windows are used on the ground floor, smaller, nine-part lattice windows were installed on the upper floor. At the rear, the central window in the stairwell is made smaller. A short, one-story extension continues on the right. The gable roofs are covered with local slate . The first chimneys are gable.

The wood paneling inside the building should be emphasized .
