Balometer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A balometer is a volume flow meter for air currents. It consists of an anemometer, which is integrated into a funnel base, usually made of plastic, and an attached fabric hood to capture the flow. It is used to measure the volume of gas flowing through it per period of time and is used, for example, to test and adjust ventilation systems. The term balometer is a registered brand name of ALNOR, which had this term protected as a trademark in the US as early as 1983.

This measuring device does not record the volume flow directly , as the integrated anemometer only measures the flow velocity of the air. By multiplying it by the known cross-sectional area, the corresponding volume flow can be calculated.
