Life

Origin and family

Balthasar von Büren came from the Westphalian noble family Büren , the owners of the Büren rule and at times one of the most powerful in the diocese of Paderborn . In 1320 and 1360 the family came into possession of Davensberg Castle . Balthasar was the son of Johann von Büren, a knight and in 1534 he took part in the siege of Münster against the Anabaptists . His mother was Margarethe von der Recke zu Kemnade . In 1476 the marriage talk and marriage between Balthasar and Elisabeth von Wickede took place. The marriage resulted in three daughters and four sons, including Johann († 1544, heir to Davensberg) and Melchior (1480–1546, founder of the Brabender Altarpiece in the St. Anna parish church).

Act

When Bishop Heinrich took office in 1466, Balthasar signed the regional association of the cathedral chapter , the knighthood and the cities as representative of the knighthood . The Lords of Davensberg and the Bishop of Munster were joint judges in the Werne office; only the cities of Werne and Olfen had their own judges. In 1479 Balthasar redeemed the Gogericht Werne, which had been transferred by his father. With that the jurisdiction was again in the hands of the House of Davensberg (von Büren). For the St. Anna Church in Davensberg , Balthasar donated half a mark as an annual pension in 1469 and 1478.
