Balthasar von Neuenstadt († October 17, 1516 in Halberstadt ) was Provost of Halberstadt and appeared several times as a donor to Halberstadt Cathedral .

Neuenstadt was accepted into the Halberstadt Cathedral Chapter in 1474 , to which he belonged until his death in 1516. He was the successor of Provost Heinrich Gerwen .

His foundations in Halberstadt Cathedral include the large wheel chandelier in the central nave and the Neuenstadt chapel in the cloister of the cathedral. The foundation of the chapel is its most extensive. It not only included the construction of the chapel, but also the complete equipment (Marian altar, hanging chandelier, vasa sacra, textiles) as well as the maintenance of four vicars and two choir students in the chapel. A detailed treatment of the chapel liturgy can be found in Fuhrmann 2002, pp. 210ff .

His lively activity as a benefactor is also reflected in the numerous coats of arms of his family in the cathedral: For example, at the feet of the statue of St. Lawrence in the crossing, as a keystone in the central nave vault or on two bells in the north tower .

His metal grave plate from the Vischer school was originally located in the central nave under his donated candlestick and is now placed on the south transept gallery . A drawing of the grave slab by Hermann Heinrich Schäfer (1815–1873) from 1842 is in the Gleimhaus and is shown at MuseumDigital.
