Banco Inglés de Río de Janeiro

The Banco Inglés de Río de Janeiro is a building in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo .

The building, constructed in 1890, is located in Ciudad Vieja on Calle Zabala 1480 between streets 25 de Mayo and Cerrito . Engineer Pascual Ipata was responsible for the construction . While it was originally built for the Banco de Londres and served as a bank building, only the facade and atrium remain today. It is currently not used (as of 2008). It now bears the name of the Instituto Nacional de Artes Escénicas (INAE), for which the twelve-meter-high, one-story building with a floor area of ​​848 m² is currently being redesigned and redesigned.

Since 1972 the building has been classified as a Monumento Histórico Nacional .
