A bandana (from Hindi बन्धन bandhana “to bind”) is a square cloth, usually 60 cm × 60 cm in size, which is worn as a headscarf and tied at the back of the head. It is also often used as an undercover of a hijab to hide hair on the forehead. Bandanas are also used as a scarf or otherwise as a fashion accessory, for example as a bracelet on the wrist or loosely tucked into the back pockets. Bandanas are often printed with paisley patterns .

In the United States, in many problem areas of large cities, a colored bandana headscarf is used to identify street gangs like the Bloods and Crips in Los Angeles, similar to the frocks of rockers .
