The Bang Khun Thian area has a long history of agriculture and trade, particularly rice . The Mon , who originally came to Siam from the Irawaddy Valley from Burma in the 16th century , and the Chinese who have immigrated since around 1810, devoted themselves to agriculture, the cultivation of fruit and the rearing of poultry as well as the establishment of numerous shrimp farms. The museum preserves this economic and ecological heritage.
