Bangladesh Nationalist Front

The Bangladesh Nationalist Front ( BNF , Bengali বাংলাদেশ ন্যাশনালিস্ট ফ্রন্ট , "Nationalist Front Bangladesh") is a small party founded in 2012 and officially registered in 2013 in Bangladesh.

Party history

BNF was founded in August 2012 by Nazmul Huda, a dissident with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNF). This was preceded by a previous temporary expulsion from the party, Hudas, a former Minister of Communications, from the BNP from November 2010 to April 2011, because he had criticized party leader Khaleda Zia and called for a dialogue between the BNP and the ruling Awami League . On June 6, 2012, Huda finally left the BNP. The party founder Nazul Huda fell out with his party colleagues after a short time and was expelled from the BNF. He was succeeded as party leader by Abul Kalam Azad. Huda then founded a new party on May 7, 2014, the Bangladesh National Alliance .

In October 2012, the BNF applied to the Bangladesh Election Commission for registration as a political party, which is a prerequisite for participating in parliamentary elections. The BNF fulfilled the formal requirements, but a dispute arose over the future election symbol that will be printed on the ballot papers to make voting easier for illiterate people. The BNF applied for a sheaf of wheat ears as a symbol. Opposed to this was the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, whose traditional election symbol is a sheaf of rice ears. On November 6, 2013, the party was finally officially registered by the Bangladesh election commission and received a television as an election symbol.

In the parliamentary election in Bangladesh on January 6, 2014 , which was boycotted by the BNP and its allied parties, Abul Kalam Azad was the only BNF candidate in constituency 190 (Dhaka-17) to win .
