history
The bank's roots go back to the Niederer Kraft & Frey law firm co-founded by Hugo A. Frey in 1936 . In 1941, in addition to his legal work, he began to take care of asset management mandates for clients. In 1995 his asset management business was outsourced to ZT Zurich Trust AG, from which Frey's son Markus A. Frey later founded Bank Frey & Co. AG and incorporated it into the Frey Group Holding , which is majority-controlled by the Frey family .
Since 2012, the bank has been under investigation by the United States Department of Justice on suspicion of aiding and abetting tax evasion . In April 2013, charges were brought against former management board member Stefan Buck and a lawyer from Niederer Kraft & Frey.
On October 17, 2013, the bank announced that it would cease operations.
