Markus A. Frey

Markus A. Frey (born June 13, 1956 ) is a Swiss entrepreneur , lawyer and philanthropist .

Live and act

Frey obtained a doctorate in 1985 from the University of Zurich with Kurt Siehr and Anton Heini. In 1987 he was admitted to the bar in Switzerland and a year later he graduated with a Master of Law from the University of Miami (School of Law). He is also a member of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP) and the Swiss and international bar association.

Frey is the founder and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bank Frey & Co. and was a partner at the law firm Niederer Kraft & Frey AG, both in Zurich, until April 2013. He is also a member of the board of directors of international companies and institutions, especially MAF Holding AG, a global business conglomerate. Frey presides over several charities and not-for-profit foundations. Since 2007 he has been Honorary Consul General of the Kingdom of Thailand in Zurich.

Together with David Feldman and Daniel Kohler, he founded the Mona Lisa Foundation based in Zurich in 2011 , which he presides over. The purpose of the foundation is to provide evidence that Leonardo da Vinci created two versions of the Mona Lisa portrait , and to promote art historical and scientific research and comparative studies of an alleged earlier version of the portrait, which became known as The Isleworth Mona Lisa .

He is married and has a son.
