Banschaft Sava within the Kingdom of Yugoslavia

The Banschaft Save ( serbokroat. Savska banovina , kyrill. Савска бановина ) was one of the nine banks of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia , which were formed on October 3, 1929. The capital, de facto provincial capital, was Zagreb . The banovina comprised about today's central Croatia and Slavonia , its territory corresponded largely to that of existing until 1918 Kingdom of Croatia and Slavonia . The bank got its name after the river Save .

history

The banovina Save was created in 1929 with the reorganization of the Yugoslav state from the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia under Alexander I. The banovina Save belonged to the banovina coast to the two Banats the Kingdom, who possessed a Croatian majority. This caused displeasure among many Croatians , as the borders between the banks seemed to favor the position of the Serbs . Because while only two banks had a Croatian majority, six banks had a Serb majority. For many Croatians, the borders of the nine banks underlined the hegemonic position of the Serbian population group. With the Serbian-Croatian settlement of August 26, 1939, the so-called Sporazum , the Banschaft Save with the coastal bank and smaller areas of other banks became an autonomous Croatian bank .
