Banting Best Institute

The Banting Best Institute is a medical research institute founded in 1932 by the University of Toronto , Canada . At the beginning it was mainly used for insulin and diabetes research.

The institute got its name from the two researchers Charles Best and Frederick Grant Banting , who discovered insulin in the early 1920s . After Banting's death in 1941 ( plane crash ), Best became director of the institute and worked primarily in the field of muscle and exercise physiology and parts of the carbohydrate metabolism . Today there is also increased research in the field of human genetics .
