The Indonesian town of Bantul is the capital of the Bantul administrative district .

Bantul is located in the center of the island of Java , about 10 km south of the city of Yogyakarta with a population of 600,000 . It belongs to the special region of Yogyakarta .

history

On May 27, 2006, the village of Bantul was devastated by the Yogyakarta earthquake . About 80% of the buildings were destroyed. More than 4,100 people in the administrative district were killed.
