Bao Shuya ( Chinese  鲍叔牙 , Pinyin Bào Shūyá , W.-G. Pao Shu-ya ) (* in Yingshang ; † 644 BC, probably in Linzi ) was a famous statesman of the state of Qi in the spring and autumn period .

Life

As a minister he was a close confidante and advisor to Duke Huan of Qi ( Chinese  齐桓公 , Pinyin Qi Huán Gōng ) and a loyal friend of his Chancellor Guan Zhong . Although he himself was an exceptional civil servant with outstanding abilities, he is primarily known for his devoted friendship with "Master Guan", who ultimately owed his life and his rise to chancellor to his friend's humility and proverbial loyalty.
