Barbara Noske

Barbara Noske is a Dutch cultural anthropologist and philosopher . She defends an understanding of animal production in the context of a political economy of capitalism and therefore coined the concept of the animal industrial complex .

Noske studied at York University and completed a master's program at the University of Amsterdam , where she also received her PhD in philosophy . Her writings fall thematically into critical human-animal studies and deep ecological ecofeminism . She was a Research Fellow at the University of Sydney .
