Barbara Weise is a former German paracycler . She started in class CP 1-2.
Athletic career
At the age of eight, Barbara Weise had an accident on the school bus. She suffered severe brain injuries that triggered spastic movement disorders. In the mid-2000s, Weise, a special education teacher by profession , watched a cycling race with disabled athletes. Then she decided to start cycling herself. Within a few years she was internationally successful.
In 2007 Wiese won the gold medal in the individual time trial at the UCI Paracycling Road World Championships in Bordeaux . Because of her success, she was included in the German cycling squad for the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing . At these games she won a silver medal in the mixed time trial. For this success she was honored with the silver laurel leaf by Federal President Horst Köhler .
