The Barbarakirche in Toszek (Tost) is a Roman Catholic cemetery church. The neo-baroque church from the 19th century belongs to the parish of the Katharinenkirche and is located in the southwest of the city on Ulica Parkowa. The building does not have a church tower, but has a small turret as a roof turret. Inside it is furnished in a neo-baroque style. The Roman Catholic cemetery was laid out in the first half of the 18th century.

history

The barbarian church was built from 1848 to 1849 on the initiative of Archpriest Bannerth. Originally in its place there was a wooden late-baroque chapel from 1720, which was donated by Count Kottulinsky and consecrated to Saint Barbara. During the Napoleonic Wars, this chapel was converted into a powder magazine in 1813 by marching through Russian troops, which was destroyed during the great city fire on May 20, 1833. Initially, the financial means were lacking to restore it.

From 1995 the Barbarakirche was extensively restored and its original appearance was restored. At the church there is a memorial plaque for the victims of the NKVD camp in Toszek who died shortly after their release.
