The Katharinenkirche in Toszek (Tost), Poland is a Baroque Roman Catholic parish church. It is located in the old town, west of the ring. In its current appearance, it dates from the early 18th century, with the core dating back to the 15th century.

history

The church was built in late Gothic style in 1456 after the Hussite Wars . It was built on the site of the previous building from 1165, which was dedicated to St. Peter . Pope Innocent III confirmed its possessions to the St. Vincent monastery in Wroclaw in 1201 , including St. Peter's Church in Tossecz . In 1264 the patronage of the church in Thosei passed from the Vincenzkloster to Bishop Thomas.

In the 17th century the church received six side altars. From 1713 to 1715 the church was rebuilt in the Baroque style as a foundation by Johann Dittrich von Peterswald. During the great city fire of 1833, the church was saved from destruction. After the First World War , the church received five new bells .

Architecture and equipment

The Katharinenkirche is a simple baroque building made of quarry stone with plastering. The plastered facade was painted with frescoes that have faded today. On the west side there are vase-like sculptures as facade decorations, as well as pilasters with capitals on the other facade sides. The church is a three-aisled nave with narrow side aisles formed by pillars . On the roof there is a small turret as a roof turret.

The church's furnishings include a monstrance from 1503, the base of a chalice from the 16th century and two pairs of cast brass candlesticks from the 17th century. The monstrance is white-silver and partially gold-plated, 99.5 cm high and designed in a late Gothic style. There are saints of St. Catherine, Peter, Paul and Barbara on it. The base of the chalice has half-length figures of Christ rising from the tomb, Saints Paul and Bartholomew and Mary with the child.
