Barcelos is a northern Portuguese town and a former municipality ( freguesia ) in the Barcelos district . The community had 4633 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

It covers the historical core of the city of Barcelos .

In the course of the territorial reform on September 29, 2013 , the municipalities of Barcelos, Vila Frescainha (São Martinho) , Vila Frescainha (São Pedro) and Vila Boa became the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Barcelos, Vila Boa e Vila Frescainha (São Martinho e São Pedro ) summarized. Barcelos is the seat of this newly formed community.
