Barcoo is a free barcode scanner for EAN codes and QR codes that uses the camera function of smartphones . It is aimed at end consumers and - following the merger of the former operator, checkitmobile GmbH from Berlin, with the Dresden company Marktjagd GmbH - is now being developed by the newly founded Offerista Group GmbH. At the end of 2016, the app was installed on 16 million devices.

Functions

With the barcoo app it is possible to call up further information about this product either by scanning a barcode or by searching for a specific item. The program combines data from price comparison portals , test reports and user ratings, among other things, with ecological information from Greenpeace , the food traffic light , encyclopedic entries from Wikipedia , backgrounds to the fair trade seal , the portal Lebensmittelklarheit.de , recipes from Chefkoch.de , reports from the consumer center Hamburg and information on the lactose content of individual products. The user can also enter ratings, comments and price information and add previously unknown items to the system. After the merger of the developer company, brochures, special offers and store information from various retailers were also integrated.

financing

The financing takes place mainly through the remuneration of the prospectus and product clicks by the advertising dealers and manufacturers, as well as a profit sharing, if a product is purchased online after the scan. Additional investment volume is made available by various shareholders, mainly by Telefonbuch Verlag Hans Müller GmbH & Co. KG.
