Barjarg Tower
Barjarg Tower , also Barjarg House , is a residential tower 6.5 km southeast of Penpont in the Scottish county of Dumfriesshire (now part of the administrative division Dumfries and Galloway ). The tower with an L-shaped floor plan, which probably dates from 1680, is attached to a country house from the 19th century.
history
Thomas Grierson seems to have received the land from the Earl of Morton in 1587 . His son, John Grierson , and his wife, Grizel Kilpatrick , had the tower block built. Successive owners included Judge Charles Erskine, Lord Tinwald , and Minister Andrew Hunter .
architecture
The castle has since been modernized and now has a crenellated parapet , which was probably added later. Barjarg Tower has four full floors and an attic and was built from red rubble.
Historic Scotland has listed it as a Category B Historic Building.
