Barker Island is a tussock- overgrown island in the archipelago of South Georgia in the South Atlantic . It is located at the western end of the Hauge Reef and is home to breeding colonies of the giant petrel .

The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2009. It is named after Captain Nicholas Barker (1933–1997) of the Royal Navy , commander of the HMS Endurance in the Falklands War when South Georgia was retaken after the invasion by the armed forces of Argentina .
