Barnard is an impact crater on the eastern edge of the front of the moon , northwest of Mare Australe , southeast of the large Humboldt crater , which it immediately adjoins. The crater rim is heavily eroded and is overlaid by the side crater Barnard A in the south . The inside is uneven.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1964 after the American astronomer Edward Barnard .
