Career

Barney Djordjevic was born on July 2, 1942 under the real name Slobodan Đorđević; very little is known about his life. He has spent his entire active career in amateur football and partly at a semi-professional level. In the qualifying game for the 1974 World Cup against Mexico on September 10, 1972, Djordjevic, a former player of the New York Intergiuliana team in the German-American Soccer League (now the Cosmopolitan Soccer League ), sat in the stands of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum two hours before the game began . In the game, which was the last of the World Cup qualification, the inability of the association and a few injuries meant that the only briefly employed coach Bob Kehoe only ten outfield players were available. Two players, Fred Kovacs and Dieter Ficken , a German-born American from New York, were flown in at short notice and only arrived at the stadium two hours before the start of the game. It was fucking that Djordjevic discovered in the stands. Subsequently, Djordjevic was hired for the game, got his game clothing and signed the necessary papers to take part in the international match. Kehoe then used him over half the game before he replaced him with Johnny Moore , who would make his professional debut two years later. The team lost the game 1: 2 against the Mexicans and thus did not make it to the World Cup. For Barney Djordjevic it was the last public appearance before his return to New York. He died there on August 16, 2000 at the age of only 58 years.
