Baron Bellew is a hereditary British title of nobility awarded twice in the Peerage of Ireland .

The family seat of the current barons is Barmeath Castle near Dunleer in County Louth .

Awards

The first time the title of Baron Bellew , of Duleek in the County of Meath , was created for Sir John Bellew on October 29, 1686 , in recognition of his support for King James II. After the Glorious Revolution , King William III declared. him in 1691 as a Jacobite to Outlaw , but this decision was revoked shortly thereafter. The title finally expired on August 18, 1770, when his grandson, the 4th Baron, died without leaving any male heirs.

In the second bestowal on July 10, 1848, the title of Baron Bellew , of Barmeath in the County of Louth, was reassigned to Sir Patrick Bellew, 7th Baronet . In 1827 he had inherited the subordinate title of Baronet , of Barmeath in the County of Louth, which was given to his ancestor Patrick Bellew († 1716) on December 11, 1688 in the Baronetage of Ireland. This was a great-grandson of the brother of the 1st baron first award. Today's title holder has been the great-great-great-grandson of the 1st Baron, second award Bryan Bellew as 8th Baron , since 2010 .
