Baron Brabourne
Baron Brabourne , of Brabourne in the County of Kent is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Her name is pronounced bray-burn .
Baron Brabourne
The title was created on May 26, 1880 for the liberal politician Edward Knatchbull-Hugessen , the second son of Sir Edward Knatchbull, 9th Baronet (of Mersham Hatch). He had been a member of the House of Commons and State Secretary in the Interior and Colonial Ministry.
When the line of descendants of the older brother of the 1st Baron died out in 1917, the 4th Baron also inherited the title 13th Knatchbull Baronet , of Mersham Hatch, created in 1641 in the Baronetage of England , and then shortened his family name to Knatchbull in 1919 .
The 7th Baron married Patricia Mountbatten in 1946 , the eldest daughter of the famous naval officer and last British Viceroy of India Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma . Since his title could be passed on to his daughters by virtue of an express regulation, Patricia Knatchbull inherited his title when her father died in 1979.
When the 7th baron died on September 22, 2005, his eldest son inherited the title of 8th baron. When his mother died on June 13, 2017, he also inherited her title as 3rd Earls Mountbatten of Burma . The barony has since been a subordinate title of the Earl - the earl's eldest son has since held the title of courtesy Lord Brabourne as his heir .
