Baron Clitheroe , of Downham in the County of Lancaster , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Award and subordinate titles

The title was created on June 20, 1955 for the conservative politician and former Financial Secretary to the Treasury Ralph Assheton .

Upon the death of his father Sir Ralph Assheton, 1st Baronet on September 21, 1955, he inherited the subordinate title of 2nd Baronet , of Downham in the County of Lancaster, which was awarded to this on September 4, 1945 in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom had been.
