Baron Dartmouth

Baron Dartmouth is a hereditary British title of nobility awarded twice in the Peerage of England .

Awards

On July 28, 1675, the title of Baron of Dartmouth was created for Charles FitzCharles , an illegitimate son of King Charles II. The award was made along with the parent titles of Earl of Plymouth and Viscount Totness . The titles expired on his death on October 17, 1680.

In the second bestowal on December 2, 1682, the title of Baron Dartmouth , of Dartmouth in the County of Devon for the House of Commons William Legge, 1st Baron Dartmouth was created. His son, the 2nd Baron, was also raised to Earl of Dartmouth and Viscount Lewisham , in the County of Kent , on September 5, 1711 . The barony has since been a minor title to the Earl of Dartmouth.

The alleged title heir ( Heir Presumptive ) is the younger brother of the current title holder, Rupert Legge (* 1951).
