Thomas Denman, 1st Baron Denman

Baron Denman , of Dovedale in the County of Derby , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Award and subordinate titles

The title was created for Sir Thomas Denman on March 28, 1834 . He had been an eminent lawyer of his day and Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales .

With the childless death of his great-great grandson, the 4th baron , the title fell in 1971 to his cousin Sir Charles Denman, 2nd baronet , as 5th baron. This had in 1957 from his father, the House of Commons Richard Denman (1876-1957), the younger brother of the 3rd Baron, inherited the subordinate title Baronet , of Staffield in the County of Cumberland , which this on July 2, 1945 in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom.

Today's title holder has been his son Richard Denman as the 6th Baron since 2012 .
