Erich Watzl

Erich Watzl (born September 5, 1958 in Linz ) is an Austrian politician. From 2003 to November 7, 2013, he was Vice Mayor of Linz, the capital of Upper Austria . From 1997 to 2003 he was a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament .

Life

Watzl graduated from the higher technical institute for structural engineering and graduated in 1979 with the Matura . He then enrolled at the Johannes Kepler University Linz to study law and received his doctorate in law in 1984. During his student days he joined the Catholic student association K.Ö.St.V. Severina Linz in the ÖCV . After his military service, Erich Watzl joined the Upper Austrian Provincial Service (Provincial Building Directorate) in 1980. In 1986 he became the office manager of Governor Josef Ratzenböck . 1979 Watzl joined the ÖVP . From 1995 to 2001 he was state party secretary of the ÖVP Upper Austria and from 1997 to 2003 a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament. Since 2001 Watzl has been city party chairman of the ÖVP Linz and since 2003 Vice Mayor of the state capital Linz. In his role as Vice Mayor he is responsible for the departments of culture, tourism, housing, technical colleges, apprenticeship training as well as for the city music schools, libraries, museums and the archive of the city of Linz.

Watzl has been chairman of the Linz relief organization since 1998, and regional chairman of the Upper Austrian relief organization since 2004.

Watzl is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Ars Electronica Linz GmbH and the Linz 2009 European Capital of Culture Organizations GmbH . He is on the supervisory board of LIVA Linzer Veranstaltungsgesellschaft mbH, AKh Allgemeine Krankenhaus der Stadt Linz GmbH, SZL Seniorenzentren Linz GmbH, KJS GmbH - Kinder- und Jugend-Services Linz, Immobilien Linz GmbH, LINZ AG, GWG Gemeinnützige Wohnungsgesellschaft the City of Linz GmbH, the GWB Society for Housing and the Upper Austrian Theater and Orchestra GmbH.

He is chairman of the culture and tourism committee and the administrative committee for museums of the city of Linz.
