Maurice Berkeley, 1st Baron FitzHardinge

Baron FitzHardinge , of the City and County of the City of Bristol , was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

The title was created on August 5, 1861 for the admiral and politician Sir Maurice Berkeley . This was the second son of Frederick Berkeley, 5th Earl of Berkeley (1745-1810), but was considered illegitimate because his parents had only married after his birth. His older brother William Berkeley (1786-1857) had been elevated to Earl FitzHardinge in 1841 .

The barony of FitzHardinge expired on December 5, 1916 when his younger son, the 3rd baron, died without children.
