Viscount Lake
Viscount Lake , of Delhi and Laswary and of Aston Clinton in the County of Buckingham , is a British hereditary title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award
The title was created on November 4, 1807 for General Gerard Lake, 1st Baron Lake . From 1801 to 1805 and 1805 to 1807 he was British Commander-in-Chief in India . On September 1, 1804, he had already been awarded the title of Baron Lake , of Delhi and Laswary and of Aston Clinton in the County of Buckingham. The toponym Delhi and Laswary refers to the victorious battles commanded by General Lake in the Second Marath War near Delhi on September 11, 1803 and near Laswari on November 1, 1803.
The titles expired when the 3rd Viscount died on June 24, 1848.
