Baron Ughtred was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of England .

Award

The title was created on April 30, 1343 for Knight Banneret Sir Thomas Ughtred when he was invited to Parliament by Letters patent . In 1358 he was also accepted into the Order of the Garter.

According to modern understanding, baronies created by Letters patent are always hereditary. For unknown reasons, however, the heirs of the 1st Baron never held the title and were never invited to parliamentary sessions. The de iure line of heirs of the 1st baron finally expired around 1600 with the death of the 8th baroness.
