Baron de Saumarez
Baron de Saumarez , of Saumarez in the Island of Guernsey , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
The family seat of the barons was Shrubland Park near Ipswich in Suffolk until 2006 , when the current baron returned to Guernsey.
Award and subordinate titles
The title was created on September 15, 1831 for the famous Admiral Sir James Saumarez, 1st Baronet . This had participated in many important naval battles of the coalition wars. He had also commanded the Royal Navy ships in the Baltic Sea for many years . As early as June 13, 1801, he had been awarded the subordinate title Baronet , of Guernsey, in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom after he had defeated a Franco-Spanish association in the Second Naval Battle of Algeciras . This title is the oldest baronet title in this baronetage, whereby the respective baron is also Premier Baronet of the United Kingdom .
