Baronate
A baronate , also known as a barony (French baronnie ; English barony ), was owned by a baron as a free fiefdom in the Middle Ages . The title of the respective baron or baron was usually linked to the baronate. With the abolition of feudal rule , these territorial administrative units lost their importance.
