The Bartek oak is a common oak that grows between Bartków and Zagnańsk , in the Heiligenkreuz Voivodeship .

According to the latest dendrochronological studies, the age of this tree is estimated at 645 to 670 years (the studies were carried out with a press drill). In the period between the two world wars, the age of this oak was estimated to be 1200 years. The real age can not be determined because of the rotten trunk inside . The oak has been recognized as a natural monument since 1952 . In 1934, a jury headed by Professor Władysław Szafer recognized Bartek as the most magnificent tree in Poland .

In 1829 the oak had 14 main branches and 16 side branches. Today it has 8 main branches. In 1906 the Bartek was damaged by fire in nearby buildings. In the 1920s, the trunk of the tree was filled with concrete. On June 3, 1991, one of the branches and part of the trunk were damaged by a lightning strike.

Today the tree is 30 meters high, the trunk is 1.30 m to 9.63 m in height, and 13.4 m at the base, the span of the crown measures 33 m × 33 m, the volume of the crown 720 m³ and the trunk diameter at chest height (BHD) 3.07 m. The volume of the whole tree is about 72 m³, the volume of the wood core about 65 m³, of which the main trunk is about 46 m³.

The decay of the trunk is a serious problem: the thickness of the healthy tissue does not exceed 20 cm and in many places it is just 5 cm. The oak has started to tilt dangerously under the weight of one of the branches.

The green hiking trail from Bliżyn to Zagnańsk runs around the oak .

The oldest tree in Poland is the Hennersdorf yew ( Henryków Lubański ) in Lower Silesia , which is 1260 years old.
