Bartolomej Urbanec
Bartolomej Urbanec (born November 12, 1918 in Krompachy , † July 2, 1983 in Bratislava ) was a Slovak composer and conductor.
After training as a teacher, Urbanec first studied composition with Eugen Suchoň and conducting with Kornel Schimpl in Bratislava from 1942 to 1946, and continued his conducting studies with Václav Talich in Prague . After engagements as a conductor with the Slovak Folk Art Ensemble SĽUK (1949–1952) and with the Radio Orchestra SOČR Bratislava (1953–1954), he directed the Nová Scéna Theater in Bratislava in 1955 and 1956 . From 1961 Urbanec worked as a freelance conductor and composer.
His work includes four operas, some orchestral works, a piano concerto, a violin concerto, songs and other vocal works as well as a number of film scores.
