Barzani (or Barsani) is a Kurdish surname and denotes a Kurdish tribe. The Barzanis were originally religious leaders until they settled in the village of Barzan in the 19th century . They took over the tribal leadership in the village and took the surname Barzani. Well-known namesake are:
