The Iglesia de San Francisco is a Roman Catholic church in the Bolivian capital of La Paz . It is located in the center of the city on the Plaza San Francisco of the same name . Construction of the church began in 1549 during the Spanish colonial era and ended in the 18th century. The baroque design combines Spanish style with indigenous elements. St. Francis of Assisi is the church patron .

The church was founded in 1948 by Pope Pius XII. raised to the minor basilica . A museum and a monastery are attached to the church.
