Basílio Teles

Basílio Teles (born February 14, 1866 in Porto , † March 10, 1923 ) was a Portuguese writer and politician of the Partido Republicano .

Life

Basílio Teles began after visiting the Academia Politécnica a study of medicine at the Escola Médico Cirúrgica , but he dropped out after a dispute with his professor 1,875th He then worked as a lecturer in literature, philosophy and natural sciences as well as a journalist for various literary and political magazines. Shortly thereafter, he began his political engagement in the Partido Republicano, founded in 1876, and was the editor of various magazines published in Lisbon and Porto . After the revolt of January 31, 1891 against King Charles I , he went into exile and only returned after an amnesty. After his return he was between 1897 and 1899 and again from 1909 to 1911 member of the board of the Partido Republicano and the Partido Republicano Português founded in 1911 .

On October 5, 1910 Teles was Minister of Finance (Ministro das Financas) in the first government of the First Portuguese Republic of Prime Minister Teófilo Braga , but was replaced a week later on October 12, 1910 by José Carlos de Mascarenhas Relvas . On May 15, 1915, he took over the post of Minister of War (Ministro da Guerra) in the government of the constitutional junta and held this until May 17, 1915, although he was not formally sworn in.
