As basal cells are called cells in deep cell layers of the epithelium at or near the basement membrane resting.

Basal cells are usually so-called reserve cells, which ensure the regeneration of dead epithelial cells . They usually only go through mitosis , but they also have the ability to divide and differentiate into every other cell type of the epithelium.

Diseases

The best-known diseases of the basal cells are basal cell carcinomas and Basalzellpapillome arising from the basal cells ( keratinocytes in) basal layers of the epidermis develop.
