Baselios Mar Thoma Didymus I ( Malayalam ബസേലിയോസ്‌ മാർത്തോമാ ദിദിമോസ് പ്രഥമൻ ; born October 29, 1921 in Mavelikara , Pathanamthitta , Kerala ; † May 26, 2014 in Parumala , Pathanamthitta, Kerala) was an Indian clergyman and "Catholicos of the East and of the Apostolic Throne of St. Thomas ”of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church .

Life

At the age of 17 he became a member of the Mount Tabor Dayara monastery in Pathanapuram . He was ordained a priest on January 25, 1950, a monk ( Ramban ) on May 16, 1965 and bishop (with the name Thomas Mar Timotheos) on August 24, 1966 . He was Bishop of Malabar - Diocese for 39 years, first as Assistant Bishop, then as Metropolitan . In 1992 Mar Timotheos was elected the designated successor of the Catholicos of the East . On October 31, 2005 he was enthroned as the new Catholic of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church after the resignation for reasons of age by Catholicos Mar Thoma Mathews II . He was the 7th Catholicos after the establishment of the Indian Catholic in 1912 and the 20th Malankara Metropolitan.
