Bashir Baghlani

Bashir Baghlani ( 1931 - April 28, 2007 ; real name Mohammed Yousuf) was an Afghan general whose political activity extended from 1983 to 2003.

Life

He was born in 1931 as the son of a Tajik immigrant. His father was the chairman of a collective farm in Tajikistan .

His political career began in 1983 when he joined the left militant group Setami Milli . He also served as governor of Baghlan and joined the Hizb-i Islami Gulbuddin party . After the fall of the Taliban, Baghlani was installed as governor of Farah . On the night of April 28, 2007, he suffered a heart attack and died as a result.

Surname

Mohammad Yousuf took over the name of the former Afghan Justice Minister Mohammed Bashir Baghlani in order to be able to increase his political activities. In addition, he passed many of the Justice Minister's actions as his own, to be sure of the sympathizers of his namesake.
