history

The seminary was built between 1910 and 1911 and on October 18, 1911, students of the seminary in Puźniki (the first Salettin site in Poland, currently an abandoned village in Ukraine) were moved to Dębowiec. On September 15, 1912, the church was opened and consecrated by the missionaries. It quickly became the center of devotion to Our Lady of La Salette in Poland. From then on, the monastery in Dębowiec developed into the mother church of the Salettines in Poland. Services in honor of Our Lady of La Salette were introduced in September 1923.

In 1936 missionaries began building a new church. It took two years to build, but it was not consecrated until 1941. On September 17, 1944, the church was destroyed by the Soviet Air Force because Wehrmacht soldiers were stationed in the monastery. In 1966 the current building was consecrated by the Bishop of Przemyśl Ignacy Tokarczuk . On May 20, 2012 the church was opened by Pope Benedict XVI. raised to the minor basilica .
