List of domestic dogs

Villanuco de Encartaciones , German: Basque Ratero , is a breed of dog from northern Spain.

Origin and history

The Villanuco de las Encartaciones is a Spanish dog breed originating from Las Encartaciones ( Bizkaia , Basque Country ), Cantabria and northern Burgos . This small, petite Ratero is almost critically endangered. Colloquially, it is also known as Basque Ratonero ( Ratonero Vasco ), although this name is not recommended.

description

Like all rattlers, the Basque Ratero is an excellent rat and mouse hunter and an excellent watchdog. It is small, has a petite head, and a short, close-fitting coat. The coat colors vary in different shades of brown, from light to dark brown. Due to its small size and its gentle and affectionate behavior towards its owner, it was very popular in the past, but has been more and more displaced by fashion dogs from abroad in recent years and has therefore decreased to only 50 animals according to a current count and thus counts to the endangered Basque dog breeds.

protection

The Villanuco de las Encartaciones is an endangered breed.
