The Basler Ruder-Club 1884 (BRC) is a Swiss rowing club in Basel on the banks of the Rhine . It was founded in Basel in 1884 and is now based in Riehen . It is one of the oldest clubs still in existence in Switzerland.
history
As early as 1886, the BRC was involved in founding the Swiss Rowing Association with the Zurich Seeclub . In 1888 the club merged with the Basler Rowing Society "Rhenania", founded in 1885 . The rowing club kept its name, but adopted the colors of the "Rhenania", blue and red. These in turn come from the numerous student associations (blue-white-red) from the early 19th century.
Trivia
The club colors blue and red were adopted in 1893 when FC Basel was founded thanks to the participation of BRC members.
With the WFV Rhenania St. Johann , the name "Rhenania" is still present in Basel water sports today.
